THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday in Awka said a total of 2,158,171 eligible voters registered for the Permanent Voters Card (PVC), ahead of the November 18 gubernatorial election.
The Director, ICT INEC, Mrs Bimbo Oladunjoye, disclosed this at the Publication and Presentation of official Register of Voters (RV) to political parties’ candidates in Awka.
Oladunjoye, according to Nigeria Tribune, said a total of 2,158,171 voters were registered during the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), an exercise which took place between August 10th and August 14th, 2017.
She said a total of 2,280 voters attempted multiple registration, while a total of 3,628 voters participated in the Continuous Voters Register (CVR).
She said in line with Section 30 of the Electoral Act 2015 (as amended), which provides that the Register of Voters for an election shall be issued not less than thirty days before such an election.
The Director, Information Communication Technology (ICT) INEC, said INEC would take the lives of its ad-hoc staff, voters, local and international observers, international and local journalists on duties very seriously during the elections.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Mr Garba Umar, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, in the State, Mallam Maiyaiki M Baba, assured electorates of a safe environment during and after the elections.
Umar said the police and other sister agencies would ensure an enabling environment for free, fair and credible elections.
