For Mrs Rashidat Kasali, life in the last five years had been one of trauma, pains and tears following an accident which affected her then 18-year-old daughter, Barakat Kasali who not only lost hearing in one ear but is at risk of finally losing a leg that has refused to heal.
The diagnosis at the University College Hospital is that she needs a surgery, skin graft as well as series of test and Xrays at an estimated cost of N1m and this is beyond the ability of the distraught mother who had been shouldering the responsibility inadequately even before now.
“We pay one thousand for bed space and because we cannot afford to buy the things needed to clean the wound, it has not been cleaned in over eight days and is now stinking to the extent that other people in the ward are asking to be moved out. I do not blame them because it is quite terrible and it seems maggots are already coming out.
“The leg is deteriorating rapidly and I have sold all that I have. It is mercy I need now as we have been told that it will be worse if the leg becomes stiff, we took her out of hospital for a while due to finances but we cannot handle it at home. I do not want to lose my daughter to this because she has gone through so much pain and wasted enough years,’ the mother told Nigerian Tribune.
Enquiries about Barakat’s plight should be directed to mobile number: 07030445552 or aid sent to First Bank account number 2087155583 with account name Adebimpe Roland Ayomide, belonging to her sister as both mother and daughter no longer have a functional bank account.
