Bishop of Ibadan Diocese, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Joseph Akinfenwa, has urged the Federal Government to be fair to Christians.
Speaking at a sermon delivered to mark ‘Pentecost Day,’ at the Cathedral of St. James The Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, he noted that much of the development witnessed in Nigeria today, were pioneered by the Christian Missionary Society (CMS) and urged leaders at all level to redress their nonchalant attitude towards Christianity.
While making reference to the census conducted in institutions across the country by the Federal Ministry of Education, he noted that the government categorised the institutions into Islamic, nomadic and almajiri schools, adding that nothing was made about Christian schools.
While noting that there was need for a change of attitude by the nation’s leaders, he said ‘Pentecost Day’ is marked by communal life style as contained in the Bible and all to change for better to make the nation a better place for all and sundry.
Speaking on the significance of ‘Pentecost Day’, he said: “On this day, the church in Nigeria needs prayers and fasting. The church needs admonition and rebuke. The church is one of the oldest institutions in Nigeria and deserves recognition.”
