At 55 years of age, I just remarried after five years of widow hood and I want to have a baby for my new husband. Unfortunately, I no longer see my menses. Can we try having a test tube baby?

Since you are already in menopause, you cannot have a test tube baby using your own eggs since your ovaries are no longer producing eggs. However, any woman with a uterus can conceivably carry a pregnancy. To achieve pregnancy post-menopause, a woman could undergo hormone treatments to prepare the uterus (womb) to receive an embryo. This embryo would likely be made from a donor egg and your husband’s sperm. More supplemental hormones would be required to maintain the pregnancy. .
Though technically possible, pregnancy in a post-menopausal woman is not medically advisable because of the high likelihood of complications from the pregnancy.
