A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of a man, Sadiq Adamu, in prison for alleged attempted rape and armed robbery.
The accused, who is facing a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and rape, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Hassan Mohammed, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case until April 12 for the mention.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Emmanuel Bassa had told the court that the complainants Abdulmumini Mustapha, Musa Bashiru and an unnamed lady reported the matter at the Bosso Police Station, Minna on Feb.31.
Bassa said they were returning from a marriage ceremony when the accused and others at large attacked them along Bosso Road in Minna.
He said that the accused and his accomplices robbed the complainants of two phones and other valuables worth N88, 000
The prosecutor said that Adamu and his cohorts also attempted to rape the lady.
According to him, when the accused was arrested he was in possession of the two phones.
“During the investigation, the accused confessed to committing the crime along with two other persons now at large,’’ Bassa said.
He said that the offences contravened Section 298, 95 and 97 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
