THE Delta State Traditional Rulers Council has reaffirmed its commitment to the continued unity, stability and corporate existence of the country.
The council has also called on the Federal Government to adopt a more proactive and aggressive approach to stem the tide of hate speeches and tensions occasioned by the quit notice debacle.
In a five-point communique read by the first Vice Chairman of the Council and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Felix Mujakperuo, the council condemned the quit notice by Arewa youths and the increasing spate of hate speeches accross the country.
The traditional rulers contented that if not checked, the development could plunge the country into a needless crisis the end of which might not be predictable.
While insisting that the indivisibilty of Nigeria was not negotiable, the traditional rulers explained that the right to live and engage in legitimate businesses was an inalienable right of all Nigerians as guaranteed by the constitution irrespective of tribe, religion and political affiliation.
The royal fathers reminded all Nigerians that the strength of Nigeria was in its ethnic diversity and, therefore, appealed to all Nigerians to promote acts capable of advancing the continued peace, stability and development of the country.
The traditional rulers also acknowledged the efforts of the Okowa administration to develop social infrastructure and welfare of Deltans in the face of paucity of funds.
They also congratulated Governor Okowa and Deltans on the forthcoming 26th anniversary of the creation of the state and appealed to all the people in the state to continue to support the Okowa administration for the speedy realisation of the development visions of the founding fathers of the state 26 years ago.
The meeting was attended by the second Vice Chairman of the Council and Pere of Akugbene -Mein, Luke Kalanama the VIII, the Olu of Warri, Ogiamen Ikenwoli 1 and the Obi of Abavo Uche Irenuma the II among others.
