AS Nigerians commemorate this year’s democracy day, the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon Najeem Salaam on Tuesday tasked eligible voters to utilise their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to elect quality leadership at all levels during 2019 general elections.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Speaker, Mr Goke Butika, which was made available to the Tribune online in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
According to the statement, “though he (Speaker) acknowledges June 12 as democracy day in Nigeria; nevertheless May 29 is equally significant as a day of crossover from military regime to civilian administration”, stressing that “the opportunity offered by this day must be taken by the people to vote wisely without inducement from politicians”.
“We have reached a phase in our political life in which the people who are electing politicians to manage their affairs must show interest on the way they want to be governed and who are elected to govern them.
This is the best to way to recruit political leaders, this is the way to go, not offering votes for the tagged price”, the statement added.
