IT has been claimed that the quit notice given to the Igbo by a group, Arewa Youths, to vacate the North before October 1 became necessary because of the agitation for Biafra Republic.
However, the fact is that the Igbo are demanding independence from the Nigerian government. Therefore, if Arewa youths are asking the Igbo to leave the northern states because they are agitating for Biafra Republic, is it now representing the Nigerian government? I am from the Middle Belt and I know that the Arewa youths agitators are not speaking for the Middle Belt.
Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State ordered the arrest of Arewa youths members for issuing such an aggressive and unconstitutional quit notice, but the arrest has not been made till now.
Recently, it was reported that the arrowhead of the quit notice declared publicly that he was not afraid of arrest and that the quit notice given to the Igbo still stood.
At this point, let me ask what the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), State Security Service (SSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are doing about this.
Sadly, Niger Delta militants have also given a quit notice to northerners and Yoruba people in the oil-producing states to vacate their land before October 1. The militants also asked the Federal Government and non-indigenes to leave their land and allow them to take full control of their crude oil.
