THE Director General of Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Dr Hussaini Ibrahim, on Tuesday, stated that the agency has commenced a special programme to encourage the interest of young ones in the effectiveness and utilization of the vast natural resources endowment in Nigeria as a way of patronising made-in-Nigeria products.
According to him, “for us as a Nation to make a meaningful headway in our quest to develop our economy through industrialisation, the involvement of this target group is therefore key since the future of this great country belongs to them”.
He made this known in Abuja during the 2nd edition of Annual Quiz Competition among secondary schools in Nigeria.
The DG then enjoined all Nigerians to embrace this initiative and reverse the culture of the import-dependent economy to an economy that was dependent on the local natural resources for growth and development.
Earlier, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Mr James Baba, who is also the Administration Officer, RMRDC, said the reason for the implementation of the programme was to eradicate the overtime of Nigerians depending on imported goods.
“Nigerians are addicted to foreign goods, we have used various efforts via different activities like this today to discourage them from having a high appetite for foreign products because our goods can compete favourably beside foreign ones”, he boasted.
