The people of Itele community in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, could not hide their joy recently when they got the donation of a borehole worth N323, 000 from a youth corps member, Esther Damilola Ogedengbe.
The Corp member who donated the borehole said that the project was borne out of a desire to leave a lasting and indelible mark in the community by improving the health of the people through the provision of clean water
The Chemistry graduate from the University of Ilorin said she was inspired out of a passion to touch lives. “I was inspired to do this not because of the applause, but in order not to be a ‘soldier come soldier go corps member’. A foot print is needed. I wanted to give to Itele community what was needed for them to live a healthy life and I saw clean water as a good one to give.
“Also, I wanted to let incoming corps member change their mentality about the service year. They should leave a footprint, no matter how little but not to the detriment of their welfare. Doing this will help make the NYSC scheme more useful and more beneficial to communities.”
The project, according to the Batch B, Stream 1 corps member, was approved by the Ogun State NYSC on June 21; work started on it on August 31 and was finally completed on October 20 at a cost N323, 000.
The corper, who acknowledged the support of her siblings, parents and the Baale of Itele, HRM Azeez Ajigboye Adegboyega and his chiefs, in the successful completion of the borehole, also expressed gratitude to senior management of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Ota, who financed the project
Ogedengbe added that though raising the fund was quite challenging and she almost gave up, she realized that “whatever you dedicate your mind to and so far it is for the good of humanity, you will definitely get it.”
