Kano State government has said that it spent N9.2 billion as salary and allowances for civil servants in the state.
It also covered the salaries of employees of SUBEB and local governments, as well as other related salary organisations in the state for the total workforce of about 156,000 workers.
The state Head of Civil Service, Muhammad Awwal Na’iya, revealed this during a two-day workshop for medical and health workers from seven North-West zone states, organised by the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Kano State council, at Unguwa uku MHWUN secretariat.
“Kano is at the forefront as per as the issue of payment of workers’ salaries, thereby fulfilling its promise to pay salaries and allowances on or before the 25th of every month,” he stated.
He said the purpose of the workshop was to expose the participants to the nitty-gritty of their profession, as it related to medical personnel/patient relationship and acquaint them with the on-going reform initiatives to ensure that they face the challenges bedevilling the health sector.
He called on participants and all civil servants and public officers in kano state to give, in return, their maximum support, cooperation and re-dedicate themselves in the discharge of their duties, as well as commitment, as a means of ensuring successful implementation of the present administration’s policies, programmes and projects for the benefit of the citizenry.
In his remarks, the Kano State Council MHWUN/NLC chairman, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, expressed appreciation to the government for a cordial relationship and its efforts at bettering the health sector in such areas as the completion of multibillion naira hospitals at Giginyu and zoo road; payment of CONHESS; promotion of staff, among others.
