THE Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has commended the recent approval by the Federal Government to concession two airports, the Lagos Murtala Muhammed and Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe airports, describing the development as part of government’s efforts towards further enhancing the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
Giving the commendation, over the weekend, in her state of the nation’s economy’s chat with the media, in Lagos, the President of the Chamber, Dr Nike Akande stated that besides ensuring that the nation’s airports would be efficiently run, such concessioning, she noted, would also incentivise private investment in the aviation sector and lead to improved efficiency of the airport and increased government revenue in the medium term.
While applauding the Federal Government for seeing the nation’s economy out of recession, after recording contractions for five consecutive quarters, the LCCI boss however insisted that the major concerns of Nigerians, for now, remain the impact of such exit on the cost of doing business, productivity of the investors and investments’ sustainability.
“We welcome the development as it presents a positive signal on Nigeria’s economic outlook. This will impact positively on investors’ confidence in our economy. The exit from recession is also an indication that some of the government policies have impacted positively on the economy,” she said.
