THE Nasarawa State Government has put modalities in place to secure loan facilities to the tune of N1.8 billion to enable it offset November salaries of its workers.
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Haruna Osegba disclosed this on Thursdays, during a Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC).
He explained that, the government had to initiate the move due to the inability of the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to share money for the month of November due to exigencies.
“As a responsible government, despites lack of money, we have to look inward to enable us to pay our workers more so that we are in Christmas period,” he said.
He explained that “already commercial banks are willing to loan the ministry money to enable it pay workers salaries but, the ministry has to get the approval of the stakeholders before accepting or rejecting the offer”.
The Commissioner, however, declared with the approval given by the JAAC, workers in the state would receive their salaries before the close of work on Friday, December 8.
