The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) inched a step closer top its national convention on December 9 with the hitch-free conduct of ward congresses across the country to elect delegates.
The exercise was sequel to a directive by the PDP national leadership as part of programmes to kick-start the last phase of preparations for the convention slated for Abuja
Sunday Tribune correspondent in Kaduna observed that the congress was peaceful, as stakeholders put all schism aside to elect the delegates to the forthcoming convention.
Many of the party stalwarts were sighted in some wards in Tundun Wada, Rigasa Magajin Gari, Barnawa in Kaduna North and Kaduna South Local Government Areas respectively, taking part in the intra-arty election.
It was learnt that even before the congress, the state leadership of the party had met with various interest groups across the 23 local governments to adopt consensus candidates.
Speaking in an interview, the Administrative Secretary of the PDP in Kaduna State, Alhaji Sani Samaila, remarked that the ward congresses were successful, saying there was no crisis.
In Bauchi State, the PDP peacefully held its wards congresses preparatory to the National Convention scheduled for December in Abuja.
Sunday Tribune correspondent, who monitored the exercise in Bauchi, observed that members of the party came out in their numbers in order to be part of the reform ongoing in the party.
At the state secretariat of the party along Yan Doka street, officials of the party were seen going in and out, monitoring the conduct of the exercise across the state.
Auwal Jatau who is a chieftain of the party disclosed that the exercise “is only for areas where there are problems before the Supreme Court’s final verdict, which recognised Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the party.
In Niger State, the ward congresses held by the state chapter of the PDP across the 25 local government areas of the state was described as very peaceful and without any rancour whatsoever among members of the party.
A stalwart of the party stated this in a brief interview with the Sunday Tribune in Minna, the state capital, on Saturday.
Attempts to speak with the state chairman of the party, Mr Tanko Beji on the outcome of the ward congresses of the party proved abortive, as he did not pick his calls.
