TARGETED at reducing untimely death among its workforce, civil servants in Oyo state were, on Monday, treated to free medical check-up for high blood pressure, diabetes among others.
According to state Commissioner of Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan, who led the team of health officials, the exercise aimed at preventing instances of untimely death from high blood pressure, stroke, heart attacks and kidney failure had become the most common reason for sudden death among the workforce.
He added that a room had been dedicated in the Ministry of Health and its various specialist hospitals for medical check-ups for the state’s civil and public servants.
Monday’s event held at state Secretariat, Ibadan, saw workers across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as those of the state House of Assembly being attended to by various health practitioners.
Upon a visit by the health officials and Ministry of Health, the secretary to the state government, Mr Olalekan Alli commented that the exercise was to ensure that its workforce was health to be efficient and effective in their duties.
He consequently prayed that the targeted beneficiaries turnout for exercise.
Meanwhile, the state government has vowed to eradicate any form of quack practices in all private medical facilities and government owned hospitals.
In fulfilling this mandate, Adeduntan said that the state’s task force continued to live up to its mandate to ensure that private and public health facilities are of the highest standards.
Adeduntan who spoke while receiving the Oyo Assembly Committee on Health, on a courtesy visit, also remarked that it was poised to expend the N50 billion realized from the state endowment fund to upgrade medical facilities in the state.
