Pan-Niger Delta People Congress (PNDPC) has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the take-off of the nation’s premier Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
National Chairman of PNDPC, His Majesty Pere Dr. Charles Ayemi-Botu (JP), Paramount ruler of Seimbiri Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of the state, commended the president on behalf of the people of the Niger Delta in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, the take-off of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) is a bold step to prove that the Buhari-led government was capable of re-engineering the general peace architecture and development initiative which would enhance peace and security in the Niger Delta region.
He noted that the presidential approval for N5 billion budget allocation based on recommendation of the committee in the Federal Ministry of Education which is tasked with the activation of the university and the one billion naira approved for essential infrastructural works and staff recruitment were worthy of commendations.
In the statement signed by Chief Monday Whisky, the coordinator of media affairs of the splinter group of PANDEF, Ayemi-Botu enjoined the FG to be proactive and urgently put all matters of interest in the Niger Delta on the table for negotiation.
He added that the group was convinced that the people were not only peace loving, but very appreciative of good deeds and above all, were all ready to work with the government provided the their rights and privileges were not trampled upon.
He, however, appealed to members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) as well as other militant groups to ensure that enduring peace was achieved in the Niger Delta for development to thrive.
