The chairman of the University Press Plc, Dr Lalekan Are, has said that things have started improving in the publishing sector following the drawbacks recorded last year as a result of the tough economic situation experienced in the country.
Dr Are stated this during an event organised by the publishing firm to celebrate its staff and customers for 2017.
Speaking further, Dr Are said that despite the challenges the publishing sector experienced last year, University Press did not retrench any staff, while describing them as the company’s greatest asset.
“It is as a result that we are celebrating our staff and customers who have performed well this year, as this will encourage others to also do more for the company,” the chairman said.
Also in his remarks at the event, the managing director of the company, Mr Samuel Kolawole, said the annual event was to show that the company values its customers and staff.
“In fact, when things were tough last year, we still celebrated our people, and this is to show that this is a company where one can build his/her career.
“We are, therefore, charging our customers and staff to reciprocate this gesture by giving their best in the discharge of their duties,” the managing director said.
In her closing remarks, the Executive Director, Publishing, Mrs Folakemi Bademosi, explained that it was not at every organisation that staff and customers were celebrated, while thanking the management for providing a conducive environment for everybody to thrive.
“Consequently, it is imperative for everybody to also return the management’s gesture by giving their best for the development of the company,” Mrs Bademosi said.
The company’s top customers, best staff, as well as those who have put in several years of service, were later awarded their prizes.
