A 45-year old timber contractor, identified as Mr Adekunle Adebayo, was on Thursday arraigned before a Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo for allegedly swindling a couple, Mr Samuel Olaoye and his wife, Roseline of a sum of N515, 000.
The accused was docked on a 4-count charge, bothering on fraud, just as the Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Saheed Anifowosoe informed the court that he committed the offence in January 2016.
According to the Police prosecutor, the accused person fraudulently obtained a sum of N515,000 from the couple under the pretence of supplying them planks of wood and also promise to assist them in purchasing a plot of land.
Anifowose further explained that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Sections 419, 383 (2), (f), 323 and 133 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11 of the law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
But, Adebayo pleaded not guilty to the 4-count charge levelled against him, while his defence counsel, Barrister Wole Olaleye applied for bail on behalf of his client.

Presiding Magistrate Fatimoh Sodamade granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000, with one surety in the like sum, adding that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must submit evidence of tax payment, spanning three years, attached with an affidavit of means.
The case was subsequently adjourned to March 22, 2018, for further hearing.
