UNKNOWN gunmen has kidnapped former Minister of Labour and Productivity Alhaji Usaini Zanwa Akwanga in his farmland in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.
Alhaji Akwanga was a minister under the Obasanjo regime and was later removed due to money scandal that rocked the National Identity Card in 2003.
According to a family source who spoke to Tribune Online, the gunmen numbered about ten invaded the farm along Wamba road in Akwanga around 6pm Tuesday and abducted Alhaji Akwanga to an unknown destination.
The source added that, “the family is worried over the whereabouts of our father for fear of his health conditions because he is aged as the gunmen are yet to contact us”.
Nasarawa state Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Sadiq Bello, who visited the family house Zanwa Akwanga yesterday assured the family that the police has mobilised its officers and men to track down the gunmen and ensure his rescue.
However, the police spokesman DSP Kennedy Idrisu who had earlier confirmed the abduction of Akwanga, said that police has lunch the hunt for the gunmen and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
