An eight member Congressional delegation from the United States will visit Nigeria between Wednesday 28th and 31st Saturday August.
A statement from the office of the United States Consul General, F John Bray, made available to Tribune Online on Monday discloses.
The delegation, according to the statement, will be led by US Senator Christopher Coons from Delaware and will include members of the US Congress Appropriations, Foreign Relations, Judiciary, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Ethics committees such as Senator Gary Peters of Michigan; Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado; Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware; Representative Terri Sewell of Alabama; Representative Charlie Dent of R-Pennsylvania; Representative Barbara Lee of California; and Representative Frederica Wilson of Florida.
The team will also visit Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and The Gambia as part of their West Africa tour.
While in Abuja, Nigeria, the US legislators will meet with a range of high-ranking leaders to strengthen the bilateral relationship of both countries.
They will be briefed by US Ambassador to Nigeria, W. Stuart Symington, and staff before meeting with Vice President Osinbajo, Senate President Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Dogara, other members of the National Assembly, and religious and civil society leaders.
Top of the issues to be deliberated upon by the US officials are the fight against Boko Haram and the humanitarian situation in the northeast of Nigeria.
They will also visit Lagos to discuss trade and investment relations.
In Lagos, they will meet with Nigerian business executives, tour the Egbin Thermal Power Plant, participate in an American Business Council roundtable, and conclude with a reception featuring alumni of the Young African Leaders Initiative and the Tony Elemelu Foundation.
